VITA 67 RF Connectors & Cable Assemblies

VITA 67.1/.2/.3 Interconnects

Amphenol SV Microwave VITA 67 RF Interface Connectors and Cable Assemblies are high-density and high-performance devices. The VITA 67.1, .2 and .3 product lines are the latest addition to the RF / coaxial section of the VPX platform. These modular solutions include contacts, cable assemblies, adapters and connector Backplane and Plug-in modules that support the entire RF signal path of your embedded system. SV’s VITA products are designed for side-by-side implementation with other VITA connector standards. Available in SMPM and SMPS series.

The VITA 67 backplane and plug-in system features devices feature blind-mate and simplified cable routing reducing Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR). These devices are designed for side-by-side implementation with other VITA connector standards. The unique SV connector retention mechanism offers significant ease of assembly/disassembly.

The VITA 67 RF Interface Connectors and Cable Assemblies feature floating SMPM coaxial pins ensuring excellent RF performance in any mating condition. These connectors meet or exceed environmental tests (shock, vibe, and temperature) as specified in VITA 67. The SMPM min pitch is .228” and the SMPS min pitch is .155”. Typical applications include SIGINT, EWR, ground base station and communication systems, avionics, and radar systems.

Available in a variety of half-width (4-port) and full-width (8-port) form factors, VITA 67 can accommodate up to 19 floating coaxial contacts (SMPS series) for superior RF performance in any mating condition. Additionally, SV Microwave is an active member of the Sensor Open Systems Architecture group, and offers a complete set of VITA RF products that are aligned to the SOSA™ technical standard.

The VITA 67.3 specification draws on the solutions provided in 67.1 and 67.2 but is unique as it doesn’t define the locations of the ports like its predecessors. Additionally, floating contacts have been moved to the backplane side (vs the Plug-In side in 67.1 and 67.2). These two changes  were implemented to allow Plug-In Module designers the freedom to implement direct RF connector PCB launches on the carrier and/or any mezzanine card, eliminating the requirement for RF cable assemblies on the Plug-In Module.

However cable options are available and still permitted. Chassis and card-manufactures work toward developing an interoperable solution satisfying their immediate density and performance related challenges. In order to assure the most robust solutions, it is advisable to use modules and contacts from same manufacturers. However, fully populated Plug-In Modules utilizing V67.3 hardware from two different OEMs qualified to the VPX standard can plugin to the same backplane slot.

The VITA 67.1 and 67.2 Open VPX standards have enjoyed growing  popularity in recent years as they are adopted to an increasing number of DOD programs. SV Microwave, as a leader in the development of 67.1 and 67.2 continues to support these important products both directly and  through a wide product offering in our distribution channel.

Key features include:

  • Populated Plug-In Connector Modules inter-mate with Backplane Connector Modules across multiple qualified manufacturers
  • Plug-In Connector Modules must be populated by that manufacturer’s Plug-In Contact
