Standex offers a magnetic reed switch where the overall glass length is only 3.95mm long, which is the smallest in the industry. The small size allows for new uses in applications like RF switching and medical applications. Hermetically sealed reed switches, which are glass-to-metal, enclose two ferromagnetic reeds in a glass envelope and protect them for the outside environment. This design allows the reed switches to operate in the harshest conditions.

MK23 Series Reed Sensor
MEDER electronic Inc., manufacturer of precise, reliable, and long-lasting miniature switches, sensors and relays, announces the availability of the MK23 Series of non-molded, magnetically operated, open reed proximity switches developed specifically for surface mounting (SMD). These versatile, low-cost reed switches are ideal for a range of applications that require little or no external power to operate, including household appliances, security systems, medical equipment, computer, and automotive.
The MK23 SMD Reed Switches are offered for different pad layouts and come in a range of glass size, power, switching voltage, switching current, and breakdown voltages. They offer a more economic and compact design than over-molded sensors and can be designed into any application where single or multi-point position or liquid level sensing is required.
Sold in tape and reel packing, the sensors are especially suitable for pick and place automation. On/Off control switch, proximity, motion, position detection with high voltage and Form C (SPDT Changeover) options, air conditioning and purifying systems, exit device motor latches, gas metering systems, and handheld barcode scanners, as well as security and surveillance equipment, water flow gauges, and indicator lights, are just a few of the thousands of applications for which the switches are ideal.
The MK23 SMD Reed Switches are available in single pole single throw (Form A), single pole double throw (Form C) and multiple lead designs. The newest version added is the MK23-90 Reed Sensor, which comes in five contact sensitivity ranges (B, C, D, E, and F), with glass sizes ranging from 7mm-21mm in both low and high power configurations. Standex Electronics KT Series integrates high technology packed into a small, compact design. This high voltage reed relay is capable of switching up to 1kVDC, breakdown voltage of 4.2kVDC, isolation voltage of 7kVDC and features a high insulation resistance (IR) >10^13 O. Standex’s KT Series is available in both a surface mount (SMD) or through-hole (THT) design.
The KT Series has no internal solder joints and the ability to meet minimum creepage distance requirements, while measuring only 8mm x 10mm x 30mm. A typical alternative energy application includes measuring isolation resistance across several components within a solar system prior to grid connection preventing further injury or further current leakages. The KT Series has been tested in accordance with AEC-Q200, UL listed.
